Presentation: "Mite Control Using Biomimicry" by Justin Sanchez and Carlos Perea of Terra Vera
Summary: Justin Sanchez and Carlos Perea of Terra Vera are the Inventors of the ApiVera Fogger, a novel system that uses biomimicry and ultrasonic technology, in a way that is capable of generating and delivering vital nutrients and miticides to a honeybee colony. They have found that they can combine naturally occurring amino acids and electrically charge them with a piece of equipment to create treatments that are effective at controlling microbial pathogens, and can also leave behind beneficial amino acids that increase bee health.
The company has announced that their product, ApiVera can generate the needed chemistry on site, on demand, and convert the liquid to fog to quickly saturate the hive with a safe miticide varroa treatment. This method has appeal to commercial beekeepers because it reduces the amount of time needed to treat multiple hives for the varroa destructor mite.
